India vs Australia 1st T20I: We Didn't Deserve To Win: David Warner

Different captain, different venue as well as a different format but Australia’s problems remained the same and so did the result as they suffered a heavy nine-wicket defeat in the first T20 International against India at Ranchi. Right from the toss till Virat Kohli‘s glorious cover-drive that sealed the game for India, not much went right for Australia as they suffered their seventh consecutive defeat against India in the shortest format of the game.

After being asked to bat first, the visitors went off to a poor start with the stand-in skipper David Warner being castled for just 8.  Aaron Finch’s aggressive batting helped them to finish the powerplay on a promising 49 for 1 but once Glenn Maxwell was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal, they lost their track. They kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and were reeling at 118 for 8 in 18.4 overs before rain ended their innings.

India were given a revised target of 48 runs in 6 overs and although they lost Rohit Sharma early in the chase, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan took them home without much of a fuss by sharing an unbeaten partnership of 38 runs.

Speaking after the game, Warner admitted his side did not deserve to win and vowed to improve in the next game.

“We will try and be better next game. At the end of the day, we didn’t deserve to win. The bowlers did an okay job. I don’t really have an answer for our struggles in T20Is. It’s disappointing and we’ll see how we can improve that. He’s (Behrendorff) from Perth and he’s got nice bounce and pace. I’m looking forward playing more games with him in Australian colors,” Warner said at the presentation ceremony.
