The Indian cricket team completed a spectacular comeback to win the three-match series from the thumping in the first game in Mumbai. It was a complete team effort to defeat a formidable Australian outfit, led by Aaron Finch with their full-strength side. Firstly, the men in blue levelled the series in Rajkot on the backdrop of defending a mammoth score of 340.
In the series decider at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, the hosts restricted Australia to a gettable score of 287 on a pitch that was continuously improving for batting. Furthermore, the run-chase was aced by India’s ace batsmen in Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who played vital knocks. Virat Kohli’s men completed a perfect summer of cricket before travelling to New Zealand.

Rohit Sharma – 9/10
The vice-captain started the series in a scratchy manner by scoring only 10 in the first game. After that, Rohit Sharma made 37 before mustering a match-winning hundred in the final match or the series decider to secure a series win. He receives a rating of 9/10. For his innings of 129, he received the man of the match in the final match.
Shikhar Dhawan – 8/10
The left-handed batsman played his first One-day international since the 2019 World Cup and picked up from where he left. Shikhar Dhawan failed to get going initially in the first match in Mumbai; however, found his stride in that game and the subsequent one by scoring 74 and 98 respectively. The southpaw couldn’t bat in the series decider, owing to a shoulder injury. Dhawan receives a rating of 8/10.
KL Rahul – 9/10
India may have finally solved their middle-order muddle with the evolution of KL Rahul in this very series. The Karnataka batsman crafted two significant knocks in three different spots to put his name as the frontrunner not only as the number four batsman to take the gloves as well. Rahul’s inputs to the captain behind the stumps for the captain were also helpful behind the stumps. He receives a rating of 9/10.
Virat Kohli – 9.5/10
The Indian captain enjoyed a series to remember. Virat Kohli was under tremendous pressure after tinkering with his batting position in the opening ODI. Kohli returned to the third position and scored 78 and 89 in the second and third game. Furthermore, the 31-year old remained astute in terms of captaincy and alertness after a heavy loss in the first ODI. Virat Kohli was also named man of the series.
Shreyas Iyer – 6/10
As a middle-order batsman, Shreyas Iyer indeed needs to play more and more and improve to cement a regular position. He looked listless in the first and the second game, but came to the fore in the third by providing a perfect finish to seal the series. He receives a rating of 6/10.
Manish Pandey – 6/10
Manish Pandey batted in two games in which he scored a total of 8 runs. However, the 30-year old played a vital role in orchestrating the dismissal of David Warner in the second ODI by taking a one-handed catch. Manish Pandey’s ground fielding was exquisite in the covers and played a vital role in saving precious runs for the team. He receives a rating of 6/10.
Rishabh Pant – 4/10
It looked like Rishabh Pant was going to play a career-defining inning in Mumbai to rescue India from a precarious position. However, when it looked like he was picking his spots, he got dismissed by a bouncer from Pat Cummins that also resulted in a concussion. As a result, the youngster couldn’t play the second and third ODI. He receives a rating of 4/10.
Ravindra Jadeja – 7/10
Ravindra Jadeja was one of the chief architects of India’s series victory. His ability to snap wickets at crucial junctures gave India an upper hand when Australia threatened to run away with the game. Equally, the all-rounder was also impressive in the field, saving vital runs. He receives a rating of 7/10.
Kuldeep Yadav – 6/10
The left-arm spinner’s most impressive outing came in the do or die game in Rajkot when he snapped two wickets in an over to swing the fortunes to India’s favour. In the third match, he bagged the wicket of Alex Carey to give a crucial breakthrough again. However, he is yet to find his stride after a lean 2019 fully. He receives a rating of 6/10.
Mohammed Shami – 8/10
Mohammed Shami quickly recovered from the expensive spell in Mumbai to snap three wickets in the home side’s win in Rajkot. The Bengal pacer fired in perfect yorkers in the death overs in the second and third match to keep the visitors down. With seven wickets in two games, he receives a rating of 8/10.
Jasprit Bumrah – 8/10
Jasprit Bumrah may not be among the wickets, but he certainly paved the way for the other fast bowlers to make inroads. Like other bowlers, he bounced back from the spanking at the Wankhede Stadium to secure a series win. Bumrah rattled the Aussie batsmen with the new as well as the old ball that kept creating chances. He receives a rating of 8/10.
Navdeep Saini – 5/10
Navdeep Saini came ahead of Shardul Thakur for the must-win game in Rajkot. With his searing pace, he troubled the Aussie batsmen in his initial overs; however, used to finish on a higher side at the back end of the innings. With three wickets from two games, he receives a rating of 5/10.
Shardul Thakur – 2/10
Shardul Thakur was backed to come good against Australia after encouraging results against Sri Lanka and West Indies. However, David Warner and Aaron Finch took him to the cleaners in the first game in Mumbai. In just five overs, the Mumbai-pacer conceded 43 runs and went wicketless. As a result, he receives a rating of 2/10.
