Rohit Sharma has been named the interim captain of the Indian cricket team to lead his side against Bangladesh for home assignment in Virat Kohli’s absence. Virat Kohli has been handed much-needed rest following a tiring tour of the West Indies and home series against South Africa.

However, in a shocking development, there were concerns in the Indian camp and among the fans after the captain left the training session midway on Thursday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the national capital.

India’s elite opener picked up a blow on the left side of his abdomen during the training drills ahead of the opening T20I against Bangladesh after which it triggered widespread speculations that he may have received serious injury ahead of the three-match T20I series.

India’s makeshift captain was taking throwdowns from team batting coach Vikram Rathour and Sri Lanka’s Nuwan Seneviratne at the practice session. During that session, he got hit on the left side of his abdomen and had no other option but to leave the practice session midway.
