Off all, the opening batsmen have always played a key role in giving India memorable victories. Players like Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Shikhar Dhawan and many more have shown their class at the top.
Meanwhile, each time, when team India found new openers, they came up very well to outsmart the records of their previous opening pairs for them. The latest to achieve that record is the pair of Rohit Sharma, and Shikhar Dhawan who overtook Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag for most ODI runs for team India by an opening duo.

Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag had scored 3919 runs for team India combinedly when they both paired up at the opening slot. However, in the ongoing match between India and Windies, Shikhar Dhawan-Rohit Sharma broke the record to become the second successful pair to add the most number of runs for the hosts in ODI format.
Sachin Tendulkar- Sourav Ganguly top the list:
The most successful pair has been Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar, who scored as many as 6609 runs for team India. They both have been sensational during those times with their majestic strokeplay across the world. Despite facing the fearsome bowling attacks, they made it look easy for team India.

Sachin and Sehwag have always been the top-class and one of the favourite opening pairs for cricket fanatics. The duo used to bag runs most stylishly with Sehwag playing in his way of dealing with the boundaries while Sachin Tendulkar has been the anchor player.
The next to follow are Gambhir-Sehwag and Sunil Gavaskar-K Srikanth with 1870, 1680 runs, respectively. Gambhir and Sehwag were also one of the sensational pairs for team India across the formats.
