Indian skipper Virat Kohli was all impressed with the debutant Prithvi Shaw. Kohli said the way that the young batsman dominated on his debut was outstanding to see. Shaw was playing his maiden Test match and the confidence with which he played was great. The Prodigy batsman scored a fine hundred on his Test debut as he impressed with his technique.
Meanwhile, it was a thumping win for India in the first Test match as they won by an innings and 272 runs to obliterate Windies. Thus, it was a dominating performance from the hosts as they ticked the right boxes. India was able to put a big score of 649 in the first innings.
Virat Kohli said in the post-match presentation, “Happy that the guys put in a clinical performance. Especially delighted for Prithvi and Jaddu. The way Prithvi dominated on debut was outstanding to see. Easy conditions or not, you still have to go out there and back yourself to dominate. The guy showed he’s a different quality, which is why he’s pushed into the Indian team so quickly. He just grabs his opportunity with both hands. Exciting to see from a captain’s point of view”.
On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja was also able to score his maiden Test hundred. Jadeja has shown an upward swing in his improvement graph as he was able to bring his to the table. Therefore, Virat Kohli was impressed by the all-rounder.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav was able to scalp five wickets in the second innings whereas Ravichandran Ashwin took four wickets in the first innings.
“Jaddu as well, he’s scored important runs for us in the past. We believe he can change games for us and have match-winning contributions with both bat and ball, he’s electrifying in the field anyway. If you see the first innings, the way Shami and Umesh ran into bowl was really good to see on a pitch that’s not giving you much. Shami came in and bowled the way only he can. Spinners are clinical in these conditions anyway. Kuldeep outstanding in the second innings, Ashwin in the first, Jaddu was consistent as always”.
In fact, Kohli believes there is a day and night difference between the England and Indian conditions. On the other hand, Windies were not up to the mark in the first Test match. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli doesn’t want to make a statement on tourist’s dismal performance.
“Don’t think you can compare the two conditions (England and India). That was a bigger challenge, something we don’t experience day in and day out. Knew when we come back home and the kind of quality we have, we will dominate in these conditions. Guys understand how to play in these conditions and they were clinical. That’s not something for me to speak upon (surprised with Windies performance). I’m sure, as a team, they’d want to rectify their errors. We want to improve upon the things we need to do, not focus on what the opposition wants to do”.
It was a clinical performance from Indian team in the first Test match. The second Test match will take place at Hyderabad from 12 October. Thus, Prithvi Shaw will like to continue with his good show.
