IPL 2018: BCCI Likely to Ban Use of Smartwatches in the League - Report

In the wake of the ban imposed by the world cricket governing body International Cricket Council (ICC) on wearing smartwatches during an international match between hosts England and Pakistan at the iconic Lord’s, the Board of Contro for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also banned the use of smartwatches during an Indian Premier League (IPL), a report in Mirror says.

Meanwhile, BCCI has issued a list of do’s and don’ts which include not to wear a smartwatch as one of the provisions, the report adds.

However, this came to limelight after ICC noticed few Pakistan cricketers using it in the ongoing Test against England.

ICC took a note of it at the end of day one and banned the use of smartwatches during any match.

Meanwhile, any cricketer can connect with the outside world while playing due to the Wifi facility. This will make it easy to get information of the outside world. As a result of it, ICC decided to ban the use of smartwatches.

As per the rules, no communicable device can enter the dressing room.  The cricketers need to hand over their mobile phones as soon as they get down from the team bus.

A walkie-talkie is given to the members in the dressing room to communicate any message from dressing room to dugout and vice-versa. Umpires and match officials also use this device for communication.

Also, the role of Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) has increased manifold in past few years, so as, to prevent fixing menace. No member, other than players, coaches and match officials can enter the dressing room of any team during a match.

Moreover, BCCI takes a special care about the anti-corruption unit.

Pertinently, a 24-hour helpline number is always open for the players to report in case they need any help.

However, after two months of grueling action, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Sunday’s final at the historic Wankhede in Mumbai.
