Karthik also praised Gautam Gambhir – the former KKR captain – and said that he had left a legacy,

“The team that Gambhir led in the last seven years, I think he’s done a fabulous job.” Karthik said. “He’s left a sort of legacy which is the kind of thing I’d like to do, where you leave the team in good hands, and you take a team that was probably doing well and take it to a different level altogether. I would definitely like to be a part of that journey,” he added.

Karthik was appointed as the captain of the franchise in a televised event. He was one of the two contenders for the post, along with Robin Uthappa. In the end, the franchise decided to ink on its recruit, Karthik.

Uthappa seemed to be the top prospect for the job, but he is going through a rough form at the moment.

He went for a huge price of Rs 6.40 Crore in the auction, which was also a surprise, keeping his form in mind.

However, his IPL credentials came into play at the time of auction.

Robin Uthappa has been named as the deputy to Dinesh Karthik for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2018.

He was appointed as the vice-captain of KKR.

Talking of Karthik, this is the first time when he will lead a team in IPL. Though he had led Delhi Daredevils when Kevin Pietersen was injured, but this will be the first time when he will take the full charge of a team.

Just like 2011, KKR has opted for a new captain, and they would hope for same results. Gambhir recuperated team’s campaign and led the side to two title victories. Last year as well, KKR qualified for the second stage of the tournament.

Karthik has big boots to fill, and he has credentials to oversee the responsibility put on him.

He has played 152 IPL games in which he has scored 2903 runs. He has also played 23 Tests, and 79  ODIs.

Recently, he made his comeback to the Test side after Wriddhiman Saha was ruled out of the third Test against South Africa.
