The upcoming mega auctions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Jaipur is round the corner with a few changes. However, the most surprising of all was the absence of regular auctioneer Richard Madley from the upcoming auction.

Meanwhile, there will be a new auctioneer at the helm for the first time in IPL history. Richard Madley, who was a part with IPL since its inception, will not be the part of the auction this time around.

Hugh Edmeades, who has the experience of 30 years in the field and is an independent fine art, classic car and charity auctioneer, is set to replace him. It will be interesting to see the way the new gavel master will engage the bidders from the eight franchises.

Following the announcement, Richard Madley took to Twitter to admit it was an honour and privilege to be a part of IPL. He also noted that he would miss his friends and thanked all the people for the grand welcome they have given.

Sorry not to be conducting #IPL2019 auction . It’s been an honour and a privilege to have been part of #IPL from the start. Will miss my many friends and followers in #India and beyond. Thank you for the welcome you have always shown. The Hammerman,” Madley tweeted.

Meanwhile, 1003 players have registered for the upcoming IPL auctions, including 232 overseas cricketers. With 70 spots available to be filled, the list includes 800 uncapped cricketers – 746 from India.
