Ravichandran Ashwin’s stunning start to his journey with Delhi Capitals on Saturday ended on a disappointing note as the off-spinner walked out of the field after injuring his shoulder.

The off-spinner was up against his former side Kings XI Punjab and he could not have asked for a better start. Having led the franchise in the last two seasons, Ravichandran Ashwin struck on the very first ball to dismiss Karun Nair. Three balls later, he sent back the dangerous Nicholas Pooran for a duck to reduce Kings XI Punjab to 34 for 3 in the 6th over.

But on the very next ball, he seemed to have dislocated his shoulder. Glenn Maxwell played a straight drive and the spinner made a dive to try and save the ball. However, he landed awkwardly and hurt his left shoulder. He was soon seen grimacing in pain while holding his left shoulder before walking off the field. Ajinkya Rahane replaced him in the field.

Delhi Capitals would be hoping that the injury is not serious. A dislocated shoulder might sideline the spinner for a good number of games.

Meanwhile, earlier in the match, Delhi Capitals’ rode on Marcus Stoinis stunning fifty to recover from a poor start and post 157 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs. They were reeling at 96 for 6 before Stoinis struck a brilliant 20-ball fifty to power them to a challenging total.

He eventually scored 53 off 21 balls with the help of seven fours and three sixes. Shreyas Iyer (39) and Rishah Pant (31) also played crucial knocks. For Kings XI Punjab, Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets for 15 runs.
