In terms of the number of titles won, no franchise has been able to better Mumbai Indians (MI) yet. Within the last six seasons, Indians have won four IPL championships so far, including earning the previous one, defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a cliffhanger by one run. During the previous few seasons, the blue brigade have won plenty of matches from the losing position, which has made success more fruitful for them.

Similar to Super Kings, Indians entered the auction as a settled side and compact enough to win another championship. Yet, they went for six players, including the likes of Chris Lynn and Nathan Coulter-Nile. Their squad strength is at 24, including eight overseas players.

We take a look at Mumbai Indians players and their salaries for the IPL 2020:

Aditya Tare – INR  20 Lakhs

Aditya Tare is best known for hitting a six off the final ball in IPL 2014 against Rajasthan Royals to take Mumbai Indians to the playoffs.

However, in a star-studded Mumbai Indians’ line-up, the wicketkeeper-batsman hasn’t got many games.

Nevertheless, he has been retained by the defending champions and has a salary cap of INR 20 lakhs.

Amolpreet Singh – INR 80 Lakhs

In 30 List A games, Amolpreet Singh has an average of 40. However, in 26 T20 matches, it spells a different picture. But his strike rate of 106.67 flags that he can be a handy batsman down the order.

Hence, they can use the forthcoming season to blood him in the middle-order for a few games.

Anukul Roy – INR 20 Lakhs

Anukul Roy is a promising domestic all-rounder, who has some excellent stats in limited opportunities. His strike rate of 128.22 is a testament that he can be a game-changer and could be drafted for Krunal Pandya if he underperforms.

He has a salary cap of INR 20 lakhs.

Chris Lynn – INR 2 crore

Kolkata Knight Riders shockingly released Chris Lynn ahead of the next season despite him accumulating 400 runs in 2019.

However, Mumbai Indians secured his services for a reasonable amount of INR 2 crore. The introduction of the dashing Queensland opener gives them plenty of opening options.

Dhawal Kulkarni – INR 75 Lakhs

Dhawal Kulkarni is a veteran in terms of domestic cricket, having played over 300 games. However, when it comes to the cash-rich league, the 31-year old is highly inconsistent.

He produced sparks of a string of fiery performances on several occasions, but couldn’t maintain the same.

Previously, a part of Rajasthan Royals, the franchise traded him to Mumbai Indians and has a salary cap of INR 75 lakhs.

Digvijay Deshmukh – INR 20 Lakhs

Digvijay Deshmukh was one of the six athletes bought by Mumbai Indians.

While still very raw, the 21-year old can be a threat as an unknown prospect with nine scalps from seven games at 28.66. He has a salary cap of INR 20 lakhs.

Hardik Pandya – INR 11 crores

For a few years now, Hardik Pandya has been the first-choice all-rounder for India. However, at the same time, the Baroda all-rounder has found himself on the sidelines due to constant injuries. His participation in the forthcoming leg is also a concern.

Nevertheless, he is one of the crucial parts of the Mumbai Indians’ line-up. His salary cap is a whopping INR 11 crores.

Ishan Kishan – INR 6.20 crores

Ishan Kishan is one of the emerging and promising wicketkeeper-batsman in India’s ranks.

Through his performance in the IPL for Mumbai Indians, the 21-year old that he could don the national colours very shortly.

In 73 IPL matches, Ishan has mustered 695 runs at a strike rate of 130.89. He has a staggering salary cap of INR 6.20 crores.

Jasprit Bumrah – INR 7 crores

Jasprit Bumrah is the absolute heart of India’s as well as Mumbai Indians’ bowling department.

Not only in death overs, but Bumrah can snare wickets or put pressure in the initial overs from which the other bowlers could make inroads.

He earned the man of the match award last time for his spell of 4-1-14-2 and deservedly has a salary cap of INR 7 crores.

Jayant Yadav – INR 50 Lakhs

Jayant Yadav is largely experienced when it comes to first-class cricket, having also played four Test matches and an ODI.

However, in a star-studded Mumbai team, he has mainly warmed the bench and has hardly played for them.

The 30-year old has a salary cap of INR 50 lakhs.

Kieron Pollard – INR 5.40 crores

Since 2010 Kieron Pollard has stayed with the Mumbai Indians, having ended up as the most expensive player that season. Though he underperformed in few seasons, the franchise clung on to him and he delivered.

In 16 games last season, he scored 279 runs at a mind-boggling strike rate of 156.79. The 32-year old has a salary cap of INR 5.40 crores.

Krunal Pandya – INR 8.80 crores

Mumbai Indians bat deep and Krunal Pandya at the lower order is one of its exponents. In the previous few seasons, Krunal has played several useful hands for Mumbai Indians that proved as match-winning ones.

With the ball, he has chipped in with valuable wickets in the middle-overs and his quickness in the outfield is a bonus.

The 28-year old has a salary cap of INR 8.80 crores.

Lasith Malinga – INR 2 crores

Lasith Malinga is ageless. Currently in his late 30s, yet the Sri Lankan speedster manages to carry the whole team on his back at times and has inspired them to some huge victories.

In the tournament history, he has taken 170 scalps in 122 games and led Mumbai to a last-ball win the previous time.

The 36-year old picked up 16 wickets in 12 games and has a salary cap of INR 2 crores.

Mitchell McClenaghan – INR 1 crore

It was indeed shocking to see the four-time champions retain Kiwi pacer, Mitchell McClenaghan for the upcoming season. He couldn’t produce anything significant for the franchise and they already have gifted fast bowlers in their outfit.

The 33-year old has a salary cap of INR 1 crore.

Mohsin Khan – INR 20 lakhs

Mohsin Khan is an emerging pacer in India’s ranks, who has played only a handful of games in the domestic circuit so far.

Mumbai Indians purchased him for a sum of INR 20 lakh and he would hope to groom himself under the wings of some gifted international fast bowlers.

Nathan Coulter-Nile – INR 8 crores

The purchase of Nathan Coulter-Nile was the most eye-catching one throughout the auction.

The Australian pacer played his last IPL match in 2017 and has also remained inconsistent for the national team.

Yet, the defending champions engaged in a bidding war along with Chennai to secure his services.

Prince Balwant Rai Singh – INR 20 Lakhs

The 20-year old Prince Balwant Rai Singh hasn’t yet played a single game even in domestic cricket.

However, it wouldn’t be bad for Mumbai Indians to try a leg-spinning all-rounder after Rahul Chahar’s inclusion paid rich dividends.

Quinton De Kock – INR 2.80 crores

South Africa’s Quinton De Kock is one the best opening batsmen in limited-overs cricket today. He scored 529 runs in 16 games at an average of 35.27 and can also lead the side if Rohit Sharma decides to rest himself for a few games.

The 27-year old boasts a salary cap of INR 2.80 crores.

Rahul Chahar – INR 1.90 crores

The 20-year old leg-spinner Rahul Chahar had outsmarted some of the best batsmen and proved as equally economical in his last season.

In 13 games, he took as many scalps at a decent average of 23.69.

The leggie was also in excellent form during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019, picking up 11 wickets in eight games at 19.90.

He earns INR 1.9 crore.

Rohit Sharma – INR 15 crores

Perhaps no other player is as essential as Rohit Sharma in Mumbai Indians.

Before his installation as the captain of the franchise in 2013, the franchise had won zero titles and under him, Mumbai lifted four titles in six years.

Rohit is also the third-highest run-getter in the tournament history with 4898 runs and has a salary cap of INR 15 crores.

Saurabh Tiwary – INR 50 Lakhs

Saurabh Tiwary made his mark through the IPL for Mumbai Indians in 2010 wherein he accumulated 419 runs in 16 games.

Post that; he has been oscillating between several franchises. However, hasn’t been able to adopt the same level of consistency. Indians went for him at the very last minute, snapping him for 50 lakhs.

Suryakumar Yadav – INR 3.20 crores

Suryakumar Yadav’s performances have been catching the selectors’ eyes for quite some time now, and he was quite close to making the Indian team recently.

He scored 512 runs in 2018 followed by 424 in 2019 and also amassed 392 runs in the 2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The right-handed batsman has a salary cap of INR 3.2 crores.

Sherfane Rutherford – INR 2 crore

Mumbai Indians traded West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford for leg-spinner Mayank Markande ahead of the 2020 season of the cash-rich league.

Rutherford is a handy all-rounder, who bowls slow medium pace and his hard-hitting skills are a bonus.

In the CPL 2019, he scored 118 runs in 12 games for the Guyana Amazon Warriors at a strike rate of 140.47. His salary cap stands at INR 2 crore.

Trent Boult – INR 3.20 crores

New Zealand’s left-arm pacer Trent Boult shifted his base to Mumbai Indians from Delhi Capitals ahead of the thirteenth season. While Boult hasn’t produced anything significant of late, his best season was 2018 in which he picked up 18 wickets at 25.89.

Yet, due to Kagiso Rabada’s presence, he was finding it difficult to cement a spot in Delhi.

Hence, shifting to Mumbai could prove fruitful for him. The 30-year old has a salary cap of INR 3.20 crores.
