Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has come out in support of Jason Holder and said that he is the most under-rated all-rounder in the cricketing circuit. Jason Holder is set to lead the West Indies in three-match Test series against England starting later on Wednesday in Southampton.
Holder, the top ranked Test all-rounder, will be crossing swords stand-in England captain Ben Stokes in the first match. It will be an opportunity for Holder to help the West Indies their first Test victory in England after Sir Viv Richards last clinched it as captain in the year 1988.
Holder has not only led the West Indies from the front but has also picked up important wickets and scored crucial runs. Tendulkar believes he in under-rated as one might look at Kemar Roach or Shannon Gabriel on the field but it is Holder who has done most of the damage on the opposition.
“Jason Holder is the most under-rated all-rounder, because on the field, maybe you will look at Kemar Roach or Shannon Gabriel, but Jason Holder only when you look at the scoreboard, you realise that he has come in and taken three wickets,” Tendulkar told Brian Lara during the chat on Master Blaster’s app ‘100 MB’.
“When he is batting, he has scored those crucial 50-55 runs when it mattered, he is an underrated player but he contributes on a regular basis, he is a terrific player to have in your team,” he added.
Holder averages 32 with the bat in the longest format besides picking up 106 wickets at an average of 26.37. In the ODIs, he has scored at an average of nearly 25 and picked up 136 wickets to his name.
When England host the West Indies in a few hours from now, Holder will be a key player to watch out for from the visiting team.
