Jasprit Bumrah To Be Bestowed With Polly Umrigar Award At BCCI's Awards Today

Jasprit Bumrah will be bestowed with the Polly Umrigar Award for the Best International Cricket of the Year (Men’s cricket) at the BCCI’s awards ceremony which takes place in Mumbai later today. With 34 wickets in six Test matches he played in 2018/19 season, Bumrah was Team India’s top bowler and played a pivotal role in India scripting history to become firs-ever Asian team to defeat Australia Down Under.

He continued his heroics in the West Indies series and scalped 13 wickets in the two Tests there. In 17 ODIs, Bumrah scalped 31 wickets. He also scalped eight wickets in seven matches in the shortest format during 2018/19 season.

Bumrah, whose workload has been managed of late, was to play his first home Test during the 2019 home season but missed out. He recently made a comeback to competitive cricket and scalped two wickets in as many many T20Is against Sri Lanka. Bumrah will receive a Citation, trophy and a cheque of Rs 15 Lakhs for his achievements.

Cheteshwar Pujara will also bag honours at the event as he will be awarded Dilip Sardesai Award for being the highest run-getter in 2018/19 season. In eight Tests, Pujara scored 677 runs at an average of52.07. He played a pivotal role in India scripting history in Australia by scoring 521 runs in four-match series.

It was already announced that former India Chief selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth will be bestowed with Col. CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award while former India certain Anjum Chopra will be bestowed with BCCI Lifetime Achievement Award for Women. Both the former cricketers will be given Citation, Trophy and a cheque of Rs 25 Lakhs, each.

Former India spinner Dilip Doshi will also be honoured with BCCI’s Special Award. He will be given a citation, Trophy and Rs 15 Lakhs.

Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jhulan Goswami, Mayank Agarwal are other cricketers who will be awarded by BCCI. For full list of winners, click here.
