MS Dhoni’s retirement had been one of the most burning questions for more than a year. The 39-year old played his final games in Indian colours against New Zealand in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup. He managed a scratchy half-century but could not drive the men in blue past the finish line. He drew curtains on his international career as one of India’s most successful skippers, having played 350 ODIs, 90 Tests, and 98 T20Is.
Jhulan Goswami admitted that no one is going to replace MS Dhoni, mainly due to his superlative abilities with the bat and behind the stumps. The 37-year old lauded his mindset, control the situation, handle crunch moments, and to snatch victories.
“Obviously, nobody is going to replace off MS Dhoni. It is not only behind the stumps or batting; he is a finisher. I don’t think, so India is going to have a second Dhoni in the future because he was different. He had totally different ideas, was mentally very strong person, and he knew how to control the situation, how to handle crucial times, how to win matches,” the West Bengal-born stated.
Jhulan Goswami felt MS Dhoni saw it as the best time to retire:
The highest wicket-taker in women’s ODI cricket opined that MS Dhoni might have seen it as the best time to call it a day. She reckons that every player has a choice to decide when to depart and the inevitable happened.
“Every player has a choice to decide when to quit, and I think he may have realized that this is the best to retire from international cricket,” she added further.
