Kris Srikkanth, former Indian swashbuckling opener, believes that MS Dhoni has more impact than Sourav Ganguly while leading Team Indian in Tests on home soil.

Srikkanth was a part of the panel on Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected’ alongside former cricketers in Gautam Gambhir, Kumar Sangakkara, and Graeme Smith where the discussion centered around the impact that both MSD and Sourav Ganguly had as captains.

Srikkanth reckoned that Ganguly had the luxury of having both Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh in tandem, something that MS Dhoni did not have.

It’s a very, very difficult comparison. In the 2001 series against Australia, I think Sourav Ganguly was fantastic. Coming back and beating Steve Waugh’s side.” Kris Srikkanth said.

But overall, who has had the more impact in long home series? Definitely, I think MS Dhoni. Sourav had the benefit of having Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble while he was playing. Dhoni did not have that luxury. If you look at home track record, definitely I think Dhoni was better,” Srikkanth further added.

Delving on the debate, former South African captain Graeme Smith hailed MS Dhoni’s approachability, while also revealing about his cordial relation with Sourav Ganguly

‘I seriously doubt that this could probably find anyone in world cricket that didn’t get on with MS. He went about his business. He was calm, he was collected,” Smith said.

“And again, like Sanga, was to spend a fair amount of time with Dada – in administration, we are having a number of conversations over the telephone. He’s always calm, approachable, always interested in a good conversation, so a lot of respect for both men,” he added.

Speaking of Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly’s numbers as captain, the latter captained India in 21 home Tests, winning 10 and losing 03 while Dhoni-led in 30 Tests, winning 21 and losing just 03.
