In the current era of cricketers, we often come across players wanting to play for the money rather than preferring to play for his/her own country. However, Liam Livingstone is one of those exceptions, who prefered playing County Championship rather than participating in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League 2020. He rated Test Cricket higher than the limited-overs cricket.

He made his international debut in a T20I game against South Africa in June 2017 but hasn’t been picked in the national side since that series. Liam Livingstone hit the headlines for his breathtaking 350 off 138 balls for his club side Nantwich CC, known to be one of the highest scores in one-day games.

All those brilliant stats and his special ability to take the game away from the opposition has fetched him a contract with Rajasthan Royals for the previous edition of the IPL. However, it didn’t go as planned for the youngster, who scored 70 runs off his 4 games for Rajasthan Royals.

I want to focus on my red-ball cricket – Liam Livingstone

The right-handed all-rounder quoted that he enjoyed every second he was part of Rajasthan Royals in the previous edition of the tournament. Further, the flamboyant batsman quoted that he wants to be part of the red-ball format, which will help him to impress selectors and find a place in the longer version of the game.

“It was a fantastic experience to play for the Rajasthan Royals last year,” Livingstone said. “I loved every second, learned a lot, the boys were great and I was delighted to play my part. However, I’m going to have an increased focus on red-ball cricket next summer, so the decision was made to stay in England for this.

“I loved the experience of playing in the IPL, but I have decided to put a renewed focus on first-class cricket next summer. I am committed to improving my game in all formats and I still have hopes of playing Test cricket; the best way to achieve that is by impressing in Division One.”

It means that Liam Livingstone will be available for his county team for a complete season of red-ball cricket and the T20 competition. However, he will be missing the ODI tournament, as he will be part of the brand-new tournament ”The Hundred”.
