The debate over who is the better batsman between Virat Kohli and Steve Smith continues to divide the cricket world. With both the batsmen showing unprecedented consistency with the bat and doing well across the world, the cricket fraternity has found it tough to decide who is better between the two.

Smith is currently the top-ranked Test batsman in the world while Kohli follows him at second. In ODIs, Kohli is at the top while Smith is at the 21st spot. Well, Australia’s batting sensation Marnus Labuschagne has joined the debate too. And the right-handed batsman has picked his compatriot Smith as the better Test batsman.

Marnus Labuschagne, who is a joint third in the ICC rankings with Ben Stokes, explained why he thinks Smith is a better Test batsman than Kohli. He said Smith has shown he can excel in any condition. And while he stated that Kohli has also scored in all conditions, he picked Smith as the better batsman.

“I think Steve (Smith) in Test cricket has just shown in any condition, he can find away. I think that’s what you know really makes him the best, number one Test player in the world,” Marnus Labuschagne told India Today.

“He has found a way in India, he has found a way to score in England, he is obviously very consistent in Australia, so it seems that it doesn’t matter where are you playing and in what conditions, he is finding a way. Now, Virat has probably done a similar thing. I will probably go with Steve in Test cricket,” he added.

Smith had to miss one year of action after he was banned following the ball-tampering scandal in 2018. However, he hit the ground running after returning to action and scored twin tons in the first Ashes Test and three innings into his return he was back as number one Test batsman in the ICC charts.
