Mike Hesson Declines Reports Of Him Applying For Pakistan Head Coach Job

Former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson has cleared the speculation of him declining the post of head coach of Bangladesh and Pakistan. As per a report, Hesson had reportedly declined the role of Bangladesh and Pakistan coach after missing out on becoming India’s head coach. Though he has cleared the speculations regarding it.

“Just to clarify as plenty of speculation about …….. I have not applied for the Pakistan Head Coach Role with @TheRealPCB. Whoever gets the role certainly has plenty of talent to work with and would be an exciting proposition for whoever gets the job!” he wrote on Twitter.

Hesson was one of the strongest contenders for the post of India head coach job. He impressed the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) and also came second to Ravi Shastri, who was reappointed as the head coach.

CAC head Kapil Dev had also praised Hesson while announcing Shastri as the head coach and surely, he will in contention to coach India in future. But for now, it is confirmed that Hesson will not be coaching any international team since he has already declined the report.

Bangladesh have already announced Russell Domingo as their head coach. As per reports, Hesson was also running for that job. The 44-year-old is now expected to join an IPL team soon.

He had joined Kings XI Punjab for two years before IPL 2019. Although, he and other members of coaching staff left their positions after just one season.

In 2018, a year ahead of World Cup 2019, Hesson had also quit as New Zealand’s head coach to spend time with his family. He later took up commentary duties in India and is soon expected to commentate again when India face South Africa in the home season.

Hesson had coached New Zealand for six years. He took over the job in 2012. Under him, New Zealand played the final of World Cup for the first time in 2015. They also defeated England at their home in the 2017/18 season in the two-match Test series.

Hesson’s next move will be interesting to see since he has confirmed that he is not taking up international coaching.
