Told Taapsee Pannu She Needs To Work On Getting My Cover Drive Right: Mithali Raj Ahead Of Her Biopic

Pioneer Indian women’s cricketer Mithali Raj has not played professional cricket since November 2019. Mithali Raj is one of the greatest female cricketers, having debuted in 1999 and holding the record for most ODI runs in women’s cricket. However, the veteran’s cricketer biopic is on its way in which renowned Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu will star and Mithali has some advice for her.

The biopic is named as Shabaash Mithu, produced by Viacom 18 Studios and being directed by Rahul Dholakia, who is also the creator of Raeees. The shooting for the biopic was due to start earlier; however, it is on hold due to the pandemic situation. Mithali Raj lauded Taapsee Pannu for her acting skills, having done some offbeat films previously.

Mithali Raj believes that Taapsee Pannu’s acting skills are top class; however, she needs to refine her cricketing skills and cover drive in particular. The 37-year old that she is best known for her cover drive, which she plays differently. Hence, Mithali advised the reputed Bollywood actress to perfect the same.

I told her when we met that she would be able to manage everything else but the one area where she needs to put in a lot of hard work is the cover drive. A lot of people know that was my bread and butter and that’s something I have played all through my career. I have a sort of style for my cover drive. So I told her to work on that,” Raj stated as quoted by India Today.

Taapsee Pannu claimed the added pressure when Mithali advised to work on the cover drive; however, she believes that Pannu will learn with practice. Mithali admitted that they both hit it off quite well since the start and is looking forward to how she trains for the movie. The right-handed batswoman will likely play the upcoming Women’s T20 challenge next month.

She told me ‘straight away you have put so much stress. I don’t know how it would come’. I said ‘I know with training it would definitely come’. As persons, we are poles apart. She is chirpy, she is energetic and I am someone who is quiet. There was a little tension there when we met for the first time. But I think with a little bit of communication, I guess we hit it off. I am also definitely looking forward to seeing how she is going to train for the movie,” she added.
