While MS Dhoni is undoubtedly one of the greatest Indian captains and amongst the best keeper-batsman, his future at present remains uncertain. He last played competitive cricket back in the 2019 World Cup during India’s semi-final encounter against New Zealand. The postponement of 2020 IPL has further put his international future in doubt.

Kamran Akmal said that MS Dhoni is the best keeper-batsman produced by India, who has achieved plenty for his team. Akmal also pointed out that to maintain an average of 50 throughout one’s ODI career while playing many match-winning knocks is indeed challenging.

Best wicket-keeper batsman India has ever produced, who has achieved so much for Indian cricket. It is unbelievable. To maintain a 50+ average throughout your career in ODIs and play match-winning innings continuously is very tough,” Kamran stated.

The 38-year old went on to remember Dhoni’s stellar show against Pakistan in the 2006 ODI series against them. The right-handed batsman amassed scores of 68*, 72*, 2*, and 77* at a strike rate of above 120. In the third ODI in Lahore, he hammered 72 off 46 deliveries to help India chase down 289 in 47.4 overs.

Akmal stated that MS Dhoni began his road against Pakistan in the A tour at Kenya and it’s remarkable to maintain that form throughout the career. The 157-ODI veteran also spoke about his captaincy achievements, having won the T20 World Cup, 50-over World Cup, and Champions Trophy for India.

“I remember he just took away the ODI series from Pakistan. The way he started against Pakistan in the A tour in Kenya and carry on the same performance till the end of his career is unbelievable. T20, ODI World Cup, IPL trophies, Champions Trophy, he has won everything as a captain. You get very few players like MS Dhoni in world cricket,” he added.
