Mumbai Indians clinched the top spot following 13th match of IPL 2020 as they consigned Kings XI Punjab to their third loss. Kings XI Punjab’s opening pair of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal could not find much success against Mumbai Indians as they both perished without making substantial starts even though it was a flying start. The middle-order could not cope up with the pressure, thereby suffering a 48-run loss.
Kings XI Punjab had a dream start after sending Mumbai Indians to bat. Sheldon Cottrell not only delivered a maiden first over but also removed Quinton De Kock for a duck. The dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav further slowed down Mumbai Indians. It was the captain Rohit Sharma, who shifted gears to end up with 70 runs off only 45 deliveries. The fireworks by Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard guided the defending champions to a daunting 191 off 20 overs.

In less than five overs, Agarwal and Rahul put up 38 for the opening wicket; however, KXIP lost wickets in clumps. Nicholas Pooran top-scored with 44; however, none of the other batsmen could find the fence on regular intervals. Mumbai Indians’ pace and spin bowlers frequently kept piling the pressure that lead to the KXIP’s batsmen making mistakes and throw their wickets away for quick runs.
