Stand-in captain Kieron Pollard was a happy man as Mumbai Indians pummeled Chennai Super Kings by 10 wickets to put a foot in the playoffs. Pollard took over the captaincy hat as Rohit Sharma was sidelined due to a hamstring injury. The victory helped Pollard register his 15th consecutive win as a captain for Mumbai Indians as captain but he hardly bother about that.

Mumbai Indians chased down the target in 13 overs without breaking a sweat after CSK batting line-up registered a collapse as they were 71/8 before English all-rounder Sam Curran held the fort for his side and notched up a half-century. His 47-ball 52 runs knock was laced with four boundaries and two hits over the fence. Imran Tahir who remained unbeaten on 13 runs played a perfect second fiddle to him as it helped CSK put up a total of 114/9 on board.

Wanted to bowl them out under 100 but Sam Curran batted well: Kieron Pollard

Pollard said that Mumbai Indians wanted to bundle out CSK inside 100 runs but Sam Curran batted well. He also said that his openers Quinton de Kock and Ishan Kishan  did a fine job. The West Indies all-rounder however mentioned that despite the positive result there is always room for improvement.

“Wanted to bowl them out under 100 but Sam (Curran) batted well. Two-three wickets early on puts you into the game,” Pollard said.

“But to get four-five is fantastic. The openers finishing the job is also fantastic. We’re not speaking about it (finishing top two). It’s about putting yourself into positions to get two points and then think about that. It’s about improving as we go on and the rest will take care of itself

“Always room for improvement like myself making mistakes on the field. Things like lower-order batsmen getting off strike when main batsman is batting. That Super Over loss was disappointing but it’s about bouncing back,” he added.

By the virtue of the victory the defending champions climbed on the summit spot.
