Prithvi Shaw, on Thursday, gave India a huge injury scare when he did not take part in the warm-up and the training ahead of the second Test against New Zealand. The youngster could not train because of a swelling on his left foot, thus giving the Indian team-management another concern ahead of the must-win clash.

India already trail the two-match series after losing the opener by ten wickets in Wellington. Reports also suggested that Shubman Gill is in contention to play the game. The right-handed batsman, who scored an unbeaten double century against New Zealand A last month, has been the backup keeper since the start of the home season last year.

However, India head coach Ravi Shastri has all but confirmed that Shubman Gill will have to wait a bit longer to get his maiden Test cap. Speaking on the eve of the second Test, Ravi Shastri said that Prithvi Shaw is fit and is “good” for the second Test.

Prithvi Shaw also returned to nets on the eve of the game and looked fine to play the upcoming game. The youngster will be keen to impress in the upcoming game after failing to deliver in his comeback Test. In his first-ever overseas Tests, Prithvi Shaw was exposed by Tim Southee and Trent Boult as he scored 16 and 14.

Meanwhile, India are likely to make one change for the upcoming game. The visitors are likely to drop Ravichandran Ashwin to make way for Ravindra Jadeja. The latter was surprisingly kept out of playing XI for the first Test. With Ashwin failing to deliver with both bat and ball in the first Test, Jadeja looks set to play the second Test.

Home team New Zealand is also confirmed to have one change as their lead pacer Neil Wagner is all but confirmed to be part of playing XI. He might replace Kyle Jamieson who made his debut in the last game and picked up four wickets in addition to scoring 44 runs. New Zealand could also opt for a four-pace attack which would see Ajaz Patel making way for Wagner.
