Australia have never failed to produce world-class batsmen. Since the inception of the game, Australia have been blessed with batsmen who went on to dominate the game. In the last few decades, they have been graced with the likes of Greg Chappell, Mark Taylor, Allan Border, Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden and several others.

At present, the likes of Steve Smith, David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne have kept the Australian flag fly high. Given the way the aforementioned players performed during their illustrious career, one can say that it would be tough for anyone to pick the one among them as the best.

However, Greg Chappell has picked one as Australia’s greatest  batsman after the peerless Don Bradman. The former Australia captain picked Ricky Ponting as the best batsman he has seen in his life-time.

“Ricky Ponting is certainly the best Australian batsman I have seen in my life-time,” Greg Chappell said at the charity dinner of The Chappell Foundation on Tuesday.

Greg Chappell is also regarded as one of the greatest batsmen to have played for Australia. He scored 7110 runs at an average of 53.86 in 87 Tests with 24 centuries during his illustrious career.

On the other hand, Ricky Ponting retired from the game as Australia’s most decorated batsman as well as their most successful captain. In 168 Test matches he amassed 13378 runs, second only to Sachin Tendulkar, as well as 13704 runs in ODIs, winning three World Cups, two as captain.

The former Australia captain will be soon seen in the dug out when he coaches Delhi Capitals in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. He has previously coached Mumbai Indians in the competition and led them to the IPL title.
