Non-Test Playing Nation Captain Report Approach to ICC by Fixers

In a fresh development, the non-Test playing nation skipper has reached to the world cricket governing body International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the match-fixing approaches from bookmakers.

Moreover, the ICC is expected to reveal the name soon only after the due procedures. Since past two months, three players have reported the fixers have had approached them.

Recently, ICC availed the services of Alex Marshall to make things better and smoothly conduct the activities of Anti-Corruption Unit.

Interestingly, Marshall was the police official in Hampshire, as the reformation suggested the Board has further the right to collect the phones from players in a bid to reach to the culprits.

So much so, if the player would deny handing over the phone, he is supposed to face the minimum of the two-year ban.

As of now, ICC is investigation at least seven cases which is related to the fixing activities and is further monitoring the activities closely in the top-flight cricket.

Earlier, Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed and Zimbabwean leader Graeme Cremer had reported the approaches to the ICC when international business syndicate tried to malign the gentleman’s game.

Sarfraz, who recently led Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy in England, was the first of three to report the approach when Sri Lanka toured the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the bilateral series.

However, the gloveman Sarfraz was approached by a potential fixer during the five-match One-day International series in UAE.

Interestingly, the fresh reported indicated that Sarfraz and Cremer were quick to react when they registered their reports within first 50-minutes when bookies tried to involve the players.

Pertinently, as the corruption has been on a high in cricket following the addition of a glamour and lucrative league, the different boards have had taken necessary steps – to keep their players informed about such a menace.

With professional players being instructed from time-to-time by the Dubai-based ICC, the distinct Board have further tightened the noose to warn the players of dire if they failed to report the approaches of match-fixers.

On the other side, if players would fail to report the approach it’s deemed as an offence.

In the past, it has been witnessed many players were reluctant to register a report before the ICC, but as of now, the timid approach has changed into a positive move.

For around US$150,000 were offered to the players by fixers, in a bid to ask them to corrupt the games.

However, with the change in the rules and regulations ICC has been at the forefront to curb the illegal activities.

In the second half of October, Cremer reported the match-fixing approaches who reportedly turned out to be the over ground workers working for the international business syndicate, before hosts Zimbabwe faced Windies in the traditional format.

Owing to the importance with a lot of professional leagues taking place across the cricketing globe, the Under-19 cricket structure has been under observation, as youngsters are more prone to fall into the trap of the bookmakers.
