Ravichandran Ashwin And Ravindra Jadeja Are Our First Choice Spinners - Virat Kohli

Team India spinners – Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja wreaked havoc in the first Test as the host notched up an easy win in Visakhapatnam. Skipper Virat Kohli heaped praise on the duo calling them the first choice spinners.

The spinners have played significant roles in Indian conditions and it was no different in the opening Test. While Ashwin ran down that South African batting in the first innings, Jadeja stepped up in the second essay.

While Ravichandran Ashwin claimed eight wickets in total including a seven-wicket haul. Ravindra Jadeja picked six wickets. Besides, Jadeja also made significant contributions with the bat in both the innings scoring crucial 70 runs.

Speaking ahead of the second Test in Pune, Virat Kohli hailed Ashwin and Jadeja’s contribution to the team. He also added that the duo is their first-choice spinners in red-ball cricket more so because of their ability to contribute with the bat. Thus, Kuldeep Yadav has to sit out and Kohli feels the young spinner understands the situation.

“(Ravichandran) Ashwin, (Ravindra) Jadeja are going to be our first choice in India as they offer much more with the bat. Kuldeep Yadav understands what the situation is,” said Kohli during the pre-match press conference ahead of the second Test.

Recently, Anil Kumble also spoke on the same lines saying that India should not look beyond Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja as of now. They have made a significant factor as India enjoy a dominant run in home Tests and are currently the top-ranked side in the red-ball format.

The second of the three-match Test series between India and South Africa starts from October 10 (Thursday) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
