The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in Surat was a treat to the supporters who turned up in numbers to enjoy it. The game went down to the last ball before Karnataka won the match by 1 run. The late drama unfolded after Vijay Shankar was run out by Manish Pandey and KL Rahul combining as Shankar looked to steal a double on the penultimate ball of the final over in the hope of getting back on strike.
When Tamil Nadu needed 3 runs off the last delivery, Murugan Ashwin could pick just one run with Ravichandran Ashwin not out on 16 at the other end. As a result, the defending champions retained the championship. Batting first, Karnataka posted 180/5 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Manish Pandey played a captain???s knock as he scored a 45-ball-60 with the help of 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Gowtham came across round the wicket and Ashwin missed it. He then took a single in the very next ball which brought Vijay Shankar on strike who was batting well on 44. However, he was run-out on the 5th ball of the over. Murugan Ashwin who came out to bat lacked the killer instinct to give a blow in the final as Karnataka restricted Tamil Nadu to 179/6.
