Ravichandran Ashwin Reveals Brilliant Story Of How MS Dhoni Helped Him Dismiss Jonathan Trott In 2013 CT Final
Ravichandran Ashwin recently recalled the thrilling final between India and England in the 2013 Champions Trophy. The off-spinner spoke about the game while interacting with his former IPL teammate Suresh Raina during a live session on Instagram.
With no action going around at the moment due to the pandemic, a number of cricketers have been doing live sessions on Instagram. Previously, the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, AB de Villiers, Yuzvendra Chahal and several other cricketers did live sessions on the social media platform.
Coming to Ravichandran Ashwin and Raina’s live session, the spinner narrated how former India skipper MS Dhoni helped him dismiss the dangerous Jonathan Trott in the final. India had won that thrilling rain-affected game by 5 runs. In the process, MS Dhoni became the first and so far only captain to have won all the three ICC tournaments.
Trott was batting on 20 before Ashwin got him stumped, thanks to Dhoni’s lightning-quick hands behind the wickets. The off-spinner’s story once again proved just how good a tactician MS Dhoni is.
“Trott got stumped off the first over that I bowled. I still remember Mahi bhai came up to me and said ‘Trott ko over the stump se mat daalna, sirf round se daalna. Woh leg side mein khelne jaayega, agar ball ghoomega to stumping ho jaayega’. Mujhe abhi bhi dimag mai nahi chal raha hai ki kaise bola waisa,” Ravichandran Ashwin told Raina while expressing his surprise over how Dhoni managed to come up with that idea.

Talking about that final, it was a rain-curtailed 20-over per side game at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Asked to bat first, India posted 129/7 thanks to Virat Kohli’s 34-ball 43 and Ravindra Jadeja’s unbeaten 33 off 25 balls. In reply, England ended up on 124 for 8 with Ravichandran Ashwin, Jadeja and Ishant Sharma picking up two wickets each.
