Ravichandran Ashwin elated to be joining Yorkshire:

The 33-year old offie expressed his delightfulness in joining the side, which has a rich history and an incredible fan base. Ashwin conceded that amid the exciting crop of fast bowlers and batsmen, he would have an important role to play. He further spoke highly of the club’s home ground, Headingley, by admiring the conditions and hopes to enjoy and contribute to the wins as he did in his previous stints.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Yorkshire, a club with a wonderful history and a fantastic fan base. I think our team looks extremely talented with some superb pace bowlers and exciting batsmen. Hopefully my role as the spinner will be a key feature in helping the team achieve success.” Ashwin said as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.

“Headingley has always been a fantastic venue to play at. People speak about the overhead conditions playing a big part so let’s hope for plenty of sun. I love playing first-class cricket and have enjoyed my two previous spells with Worcestershire and Nottinghamshire. My role will be to score runs and take wickets but it will be a collective effort if we are to win the title.” he added further.

Ravichandran Ashwin is India’s fourth-highest wicket-taker with 362 wickets in 70 Tests at an average of 25.36. Ashwin will follow the footsteps of batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, who was county’s first-ever overseas player. Ashwin is currently preparing himself for the two Tests against New Zealand at their home next month.
