Ricky Ponting, former Australian skipper and the current head coach of the Delhi Capitals, is hopeful that ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is available for his sides’ encounter against the Chennai Super Kings.

Ponting took to his official Twitter account, where he hailed Marcus Stoinis for his brilliant performance with both bat and ball against Kings XI Punjab and Kagiso Rabada for a quality super-over before adding that we will soon find out more details about the extent of Ashwin’s injury.

Still buzzing the morning after! Thrilled with the way we fought back after our start, @MStoinis with both bat and ball and @KagisoRabada25 with a quality super over. We’ll find out more about @ashwinravi99’s injury soon and hopefully he’s ok to play against the Super Kings,” Ricky Ponting wrote.

Ravichandran Ashwin started off his IPL 2020 campaign brilliant as he claimed the prized scalps of Karun Nair and Nicholas Pooran in his very first over. However, tragedy struck on the last ball of his 1st over when Ashwin, in an attempt to stop the ball, dived full strength to seemingly dislocate his shoulder.

Ashwin left the field in excruciating pain and did not take any further part in the game. Marcus Stoinis, however, ensured that the Capitals did not miss Ashwin much as the all-rounder backed up his whirlwind half-century with two wickets in the final over to endure that the game went into the Super-Over.

Kagiso Rabada once again displayed why he is one of the best death bowlers of the modern era as he dismissed both KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran on consecutive deliveries to leave DC with a target of 3 runs, which was easily chased down by Rishabh Pant.

Delhi Capitals next game is on September 25 against the Chennai Super Kings and it will be interesting to see if Ravichandran Ashwin will recover from his injury by the time the match rolls around or not.
