Former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar has lavished praise on young Rishabh Pant, calling him this generation’s Virender Sehwag. There is little denying the fact that Rishabh Pant is a one-in-a-generation batsman. At just 21, he has already made a big name for himself and is looking primed to create his own legacy in the own game. Unlike most of his contemporaries, Pant relies on unconventional shots to get going and rarely fails.

His fearless approach has taken the cricketing world by surprise. Pant’s exploits in the Indian Premier League has made him one of the most sought after cricketers in the world at the moment. Just a day ago, he showed his immense potential with a stunning match-winning cameo against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator. Pant’s knock helped Delhi Capitals beat Sunrisers in a thriller and step closer to the final.

Chasing 163,  Dehli Capitals started on a stunning note with Prithvi Shaw firing on all cylinders. By the time the powerplay ended, the Delhi-based outfit had raced away to 55. However, they soon collapsed and were reeling at 111 for 5 in the 15th over. Sunrisers were very much on the top at that moment before Rishabh Pant took the matters in his own hands. He smashed 49 from just 21 to turn the game as Delhi chased down the total with a ball remaining.

The latest knock has only enhanced Pant’s reputation as one of the best batsman in the world at the moment.  Pant is in fine form at the moment, scoring 450 runs in the 15 matches he has played so far. His runs have come at a blistering strike rate of 163.63.

And now Sanjay Manjrekar has compared him with none other than the legendary Virender Sehwag. Manjrekar also said that one should not try and change a batsman like Pant as he tweeted:

“Penny dropped for me last night. Rishabh is this generation’s Viru. Batsman who needs to be treated differently…which is to just let him be. You either pick him or drop him but never try & change him.”
