The Indian cricket team is currently gearing themselves for the first Test in Indore after a successful T20 international series against Bangladesh. The first of the two-match Test series begins at the Holkar Stadium on Thursday where the hosts have started practising. Having not turned up for the net session on the first day, opening batsman Rohit Sharma came on Wednesday where he also met one of the many supporters of the Bangladeshi team, Shoaib Ali Bukhari.

Given the craze, Indian fans have for cricket and the volume of supporters that turn up for every home game, the security systems and protocols get very tight. Under these circumstances, it became difficult for Shoaib to be present in the stadium to cheer his team. Rohit Sharma stood up and made arrangements for him so that he could enter the stadium and the field with ease.

The 32-year old made this possible by making a card for Shoaib with the help of which he could make it to the stadium and the field. Rohit took in charge of making this happen, and along with a famous Indian supporter in Sudhir Gautam assisted him in completing the procedure.

Shoaib described how staying close to Rohit in the Indore gallery helped him fetch an easy access to the stadium. On being asked by Rohit why he couldn’t make contact with him, Shoaib cited the security reasons became an obstruction.

“He asked me why I didn’t meet with him. I told him about the tight security here in India. I also told him that I tried but failed due to that tight security. Then he asked about my situation and where I am staying here. After that, a person sent me to the upstairs. Sudhir took me to the place. There cards were made. They took my picture and passport’s photocopy and told me to come at 4 PM. And when I went at 4 PM, I found my card done,” he said as quoted by bdcrictime.

The fan from Bangladesh was entirely in awe of India’s limited-overs vice-captain and couldn’t help admiring him. Shoaib described Rohit as an exceptionally great human being by heart despite being one of the biggest sportspeople in India. He expressed his delightfulness by saying that getting into the stadium without much restrictions and staying close to his team is his biggest achievement.

I am much glad because I want to stay with Bangladesh team always. I want to shout and show the flag by staying beside the team. In the T20 series, I couldn’t able to do that. Because I had to buy the tickets of the distant galleries. And it made me much sad. But all the sorrows had been removed. Now with that card, I can enter with any gate of the stadium, also I can leave from any gate as much as I can. I can stay beside my team – this is the biggest achievement for me,” he said.

“After getting the card, I didn’t talk with Rohit. I beckoned to him when he was in the bus and said I would meet him in the hotel. He’s an exceptional person. A great personality. He’s a big cricketer but with a great mind.” he further stated.
