Rohit Sharma Equals MS Dhoni's Record Of Most T20Is For India

India opener Rohit Sharma had a rare failure with the bat last week when he failed to get going against South Africa in the second T20I. The right-handed batsman scored just 12 as India were chasing a modest 149 in Mohali. Rohit’s rare failure did not affect India much as they went on to beat the Proteas by seven wickets.

Skipper Virat Kohli was the star of the show, scoring an unbeaten 72 as India chased down the total with utmost ease. Kohli was well supported by opener Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer. India chased down the total by losing just three wickets and with one over remaining. Rohit Sharma will now look to make amends in the third T20I.

And even before the start of the game, the India star added yet another feather to his already illustrious cap. As soon as his name was mentioned in the team-sheet, Rohit Sharma equalled MS Dhoni’s record of playing most T20Is for India. Both Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni have now represented India in 98 T20Is.

Suresh Raina is a distant second with 78 games to his name, followed by current captain Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh in the top five.

The overall record is held by Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik. He has played 111 T20Is so far. In fact, Malik is the first and only player to have reached the 100-game mark in the shortest format of the game. Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi is at second with 99 games to his name.
