There is absolutely no denying that Rohit Sharma’s contrasting performances in the limited-overs and Test cricket have left the entire cricketing world baffled. One of the finest cricketers of the white-ball, Rohit is surprisingly yet to cement his place in the Test team even after making his debut five years ago.

For a player of his calibre, the constant struggle in red-ball cricket can be embarrassing. However,  India’s limited-overs vice-captain seems to have made peace with his below-par Test record.

In a recent interview, Rohit admitted that he doesn’t fret over his Test selection anymore and just wants to enjoy the remainder of his international career.

“There’s a limited time you have as a player and I have finished almost half of it. There’s no point in spending the remaining half thinking whether I’ll be picked or not. I am going forward with the theory of ‘whatever time I have to make it count’,” Rohit told PTI.

Rohit was recently dropped from India’s squad for the One-off Test against Afghanistan, starting June 14 in Bengaluru. His One-day International and Twenty20 stats can make any player in the world envious.

The right-hander has scored a record three double tons in ODIs, in addition, to score two centuries in T20s.

However, his Test career, which started with two centuries, holds a different sight. So far, he has scored just 1,479 runs at an average of 39.97 in 25 Tests.

The contrasting performances have made many label Rohit Sharma as a white-ball specialist. However, the Mumbai star refused to buy the theory.

“By no means. As a child, all I dreamt of was to play Test cricket and that dream will never be over. Nobody can take away my game or what I think about the game,” an agitated Rohit said.

“Selectors can do what is best in their control, players will do what is in their control. It’s important to keep focus. When I started playing cricket, there was no white ball cricket. We used to play in school, in age-group cricket with a red ball. The white ball came much later. As a child, you only saw red ball cricket,” he added.
