India star Rohit Sharma, on Saturday, said that he missed a good chance of scoring the first-ever double hundred in T20s in 2017. No batsman has managed to touch the 200-run mark in the shortest format of the game so far.

As of now, West Indies superstar Chris Gayle holds the record for the highest score in a T20. He played a monumental knock of 175 not out against the now-defunct Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League. In international cricket, Australia captain Aaron Finch holds the record for his 172-run knock against Zimbabwe.

As far as Rohit Sharma is concerned, he is more than capable of scoring the first double hundred in T20s. The right-handed batsman has scored a record four centuries in the 20-over format so far. He also has three double centuries in ODIs to his name. Rohit Sharma also holds the record for highest individual score in ODIs for his monumental knock of 264.

While only time will tell who becomes the first double-centurion in T20Is, Rohit Sharma has revealed that he had the chance to do so in a T20I match against Sri Lanka in Indore in November 2017. In that game, the Indian opener went on to score the record-fastest hundred in the format – a 35-ball 100. He was eventually dismissed by Chammeera for a 43-ball 118.

“In that game I had a good chance to maybe make 200 also. When I got out there were still more than 9 overs (seven) left,” the 33-year-old said in an Instagram Live video on Mumbai Indians page.

“So it was a good chance but fine, 35-ball 100 — I will take that,” Rohit added. Rohit’s record-breaking ton saw India posting a mammoth target of 261 for Sri Lanka to chase. The visitors were bundled out for 172, and India won the match by 88 runs,” he added.
