Scoring runs in run chases has become breakfast for India captain Virat Kohli, as he keeps on repeating his feats one after the other. His exceptional display of batsmanship was out on display for yet another time during the opening ODI between India and South Africa at the Kingsmead in Durban which the visitors won quite comprehensively by six-wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the six-match series.

Kohli went on to smash his 33rd ODI century, and it was just an exceptional inning. He paced the innings brilliantly and played the big shots whenever there was a bit of pressure. The partnership he shared with Ajinkya Rahan of 189 for the third wicket proved to be substantial, as India romped home in the end despite losing both their wickets towards the fag end of the run chase.

Kohli’s 112 off 119 deliveries was studded with ten hits to the fence while Ajinkya Rahane struck five fours and a couple of sixes en route to his 79 of 84 balls. Earlier it was the guile and perseverance of the Indian spinners which never really allowed the hosts to press the accelerator in crucial junctures of the game.

Both Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal were the pick of the bowlers for India bagging three and two wickets, respectively. The South African batsmen found it pretty hard to deal with their variations and kept losing wickets on a consistent basis especially in the middle before Chris Morris joined hands with skipper Faf du Plessis to steady the ship for South Africa.

Despite their partnership, South Africa managed to post only 269 which was below par given the terrific batting paradise it was. The victory will be a huge morale booster for the visitors, as they look to seal their maiden ODI series in the Rainbow nation. Kohli was adjudged the Player of the Match for his exploits.

Meanwhile, former English skipper Michael Vaughan who is a big fan of Kohli took to his twitter handle to laud the chase master who has been quite phenomenal in his career so far.

“He is at is again. The Greatest chaser the game has ever seen .. #Fact #SAvIND @imVkohli,” Vaughan wrote.
