Sachin Tendulkar Reveals Who Started 'Sachin Sachin' Chant

‘Sachin, Sachin’ is arguably the most popular chant in the game of cricket. The chant used to be heard whenever Sachin Tendulkar was on the field irrespective of where the team was playing or what he was doing. A mere sight of Sachin Tendulkar was more than enough for his millions of fans to shout ‘Sachin Sachin’ at the top of their voices.

Sachin Tendulkar is the most decorated batsman in the history of ODI and Test cricket. The legendary batsman scored a staggering 34,357 runs across formats, more than 6,000 ahead of the second-placed Kumar Sangakkara. In terms of centuries, he hit 100 and is 29 clear of the next on the list, Ricky Ponting. In ODIs, he has hit 49 tons while in Tests, he has scored 51 tons. In 2011, he helped India win their second World Cup.

Origin of the chant:

In a recent interview, the former India batsman revealed who started the famous ‘Sachin Sachin’ chant and the answer is bound to leave everyone surprised. Sachin Tendulkar revealed that not any fan but his mother was the one who started the famous chant.

“Do you know who started ‘Sachin…Sachin’? My mother. When I was 5 or so and I was playing downstairs with my friends in front of our building, after 7.30 or so when mother wanted me home and I did not want to leave the playground. That’s when she used to stand in the balcony and go like.. Sachin…Sachin..you need to come now,” Sachin Tendulkar told India Today.

“During my playing days, I was superstitious and I did not want to count my runs. The moment you start counting the runs they don’t come to you. Same thing with ‘Sachin…Sachin’. Don’t count just soak in whatever it is. The atmosphere was unbelievable. That is what I enjoy. It is a blessing. However much I thank people, it is never enough,” he added.
