England has added Sam Billings to their ODI squad as a cover for Jason Roy. The England opener had suffered an injury to finger in the second ODI while fielding at the short mid-wicket position. Therefore, Roy suffered a tearing on his little finger.
Consequently, Roy will undergo a fitness Test before the ODI decider against India. Thus, if passes the test, he would take his opening place. Furthermore, James Vince is already in the squad.
Meanwhile, England’s in-form batsman Alex Hales was also ruled out of the ODI series due to a side strain. Moreover, Dawid Malan was released to play for England Lions against India A which kickstarted yesterday (16 July).
Meanwhile, the three-match ODI series is leveled at 1-1. The decider will be played today at Headingley, Leeds. The hosts were able to bounce back in the second ODI as they won by a margin of 86 runs.
Joe Root was able to get back into form as he scored a fine hundred to take England score to 322. On the other hand, no Indian batsman was able to cross the 50-run mark.
Liam Plunkett was the star with the ball as he scalped four wickets and gave away only 46 runs in his 10-overs quota.
Thus, the stage is set for another decider between England and India. The tourists have already bagged the T20I series and would aim to win the ODI series as well. Furthermore, the ODI series will be followed by the engaging five-match Test series. The first Test match will be played from 1 August at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
