Team India all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who suffered a lower back injury, is likely to feature in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2018-19 for Baroda to prove his fitness.
Meanwhile, Pandya sustained a lower back injury during the Asia Cup earlier this year. He caught with the injury while bowling in a group game between Indian and Pakistan. The incident happened in the 18th over of the match when he was into his fifth over.
Bowling the second last ball, Hardik Pandya felt an unbearable pain in his lower back after completing his follow through. As a result, he lay down on the ground. Unable to get up after a sudden blow, a stretcher was requested to take him off for a medical examination.
Since then, Hardik has been on his road to recovery. However, its only after two months of injury that he has managed to hit the ground to train. As a precautionary measure, BCCI opted to rest him for the Windies as well the Australian series (T20I and Tests). And now, he will miss the one-dayers against New Zealand A before the ODIs against Australia.
As per reports in ESPN Cricinfo, Hardik Pandya is now likely to play the sixth round of the ongoing season of Ranji Trophy against Mumbai starting from December 14. Furthermore, it is likely that that the selectors are considering Pandya for the later part of the Test series as he will bring an extra seaming option to the side.
Hardik Pandya last played a first-class 2016-17 season and from Baroda’s point of view it will be a huge boost for them.
