Shubman Gill, the talented India and Kolkata Knight Riders, is looking forward to learning leadership skills from KKR coach and former New Zealand captain, Brendon McCullum.
Brendon McCullum, who has previously represented Kolkata Knight Riders, is one of the great captains of the modern era, someone who, with his aggressive approach, scripted a whirlwind revolution in New Zealand cricket.
Apart from McCullum, Shubman Gill also talked about the leadership skills of England’s World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan, adding that he is keen to delve into the mindset of both McCullum and Morgan and how they go about planning things.
“The mindset that Eoin Morgan and McCullum possess is something that’s really unique. If you look at Brendon, the way he captained New Zealand in the 2015 World Cup was really fantastic to see. And how he goes about planning things is what I want to pick up,” Shubman Gill told ESPNCricinfo.
“Calmness is an important leadership trait”- Shubman Gill
One of the key and certainly an important aspect of leadership is to remain calm when things are not going as planned. The likes of Eoin Morgan, Brendon McCullum are renowned for this trait. The duo never showed their actual emotions when the chips were down and almost maintained a poker face.
Gill too believes that calmness is an important trait when it comes to leadership as it only helps a captain view the match from different angles but it also helps them at fathoming what the opposition team is thinking.
“Calmness [is an important leadership trait] and to be able to see the match from different angles [is another]. Just not from a single point of view, but to see how the opposite team is viewing the match is also one of the key traits.” he added.
