Former India batsman VVS Laxman has no second thoughts while picking Sourav Ganguly as the best Indian captain he had worked under. Laxman had made his international debut in 1996 against South Africa in Ahmedabad. It was then when Sachin Tendulkar was the skipper of the Indian National Cricket Team. Since then, he was a crucial player in the side for the next sixteen years.

Moreover, VVS Laxman made a lot of fans and played a significant role in many overseas Test wins for India. One such was India’s historic win over Australia at the Eden Gardens in 2001, which Ganguly believes saved his career as captain. Notably, Indian cricket was in a state of chaos after the infamous match-fixing scandal. However, it was when Steve Waugh’s Australian side visited the country.

Furthermore, Ganguly took over the reins of the team when the match-fixing saga was fresh in Indian cricket. He built a perfect team by showing faith in the youngsters like Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni. India also qualified for the final of the World Cup in 2003 only losing to Australia in the final. In addition to, India learned to fight under Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy and his aggression to rub on the shoulders of his teammates as well.
