Regular skipper, Asghar Stanikzai’s return will boost the Afghanistan team ahead of the must-win clash. Meanwhile, Stanikzai got fit following an appendicitis surgery that he underwent in February. Further, it prevented him from participating in the World Cup Qualifier so far.
Meanwhile, it will come as a relief for Rashid Khan, who saw a dip in form with the added responsibility. The 19-year-old Rashid led the side in the absence of Stanikzai.
Stanikzai will slot in instead of Afsar Zazai, who sustained a hamstring injury.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan will have to win their remaining Super Six games by big margins to qualify for the World Cup next year. That, in addition to banking on Scotland and Zimbabwe losing their final games to Windies and the UAE respectively.
Afghanistan will take on UAE on Tuesday (March 20), before taking on Ireland on March 23.
