Suresh Raina Returns To Nets As He Starts Preparation For Comeback

A few days after confirming his participation in IPL 2021, former India batsman Suresh Raina has returned to the practice nets following a long gap from the game. The southpaw has not played a competitive game since the final of IPL 2019 in May last year.

His long absence from the cricket field would have ended in September this year but he pulled out of IPL 2020. Suresh Raina had traveled with Chennai Super Kings to UAE but returned home, citing personal reasons. However, he has already set his sight on the next edition of the IPL.

Prior to playing in IPL next year, Suresh Raina will also ply his trade in the domestic circuit. He is currently in Kanpur practicing for the upcoming domestic tournament, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, in which he will play for Uttar Pradesh cricket team. On Sunday, he took to Twitter to share some pictures from his practice sessions.

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was scheduled to start in November but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The BCCI has rescheduled the tournament to start in January. It will be played across six states from January 10 to January 31.

Having not played for more than a year, Suresh Raina will be looking to hit the ground running. In August this year, he had announced his retirement from international cricket. His decision had come just minutes after MS Dhoni had announced his retirement from international cricket.
