Veteran Indian batsman Suresh Raina has credited batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar for India’s triumph in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. The Men in Blue won their second-ever World Cup in the year 2011 when hosts beat Sri Lanka in the final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Thus, it was India’s second ODI world cup win after they won it previously in the year 1983. It was India’s first win in 28 years and eventually became the first team to win a World Cup at the home venue before Australia won the 2015 grand finale at the MCG against New Zealand. On April o2, every year, India celebrates its win anniversary.

Although no one can deny the fact that the World Cup win was a team effort, Suresh Raina believes it was the presence of Sachin Tendulkar that gave India their second chance to grab the prestigious trophy.

Speaking in an interview to Khaleej Times, India batsman Suresh Raina, who was part of the 2011 World Cup-winning team, says that Tendulkar’s calmness was the reason behind India winning the trophy. “With Sachin, it’s always about his calmness. It was because of Sachin that we won the World Cup,” Raina said.

“He was the guy who made everyone in the team believe that we can do that, He was like the second coach in the team,” Suresh Raina added.

India Had A Stellar Run In The 2011 World Cup

Team India was magnificent throughout the 2011 World Cup. They had the pressure more than ever as everybody knew it would be the last world cup for some of the great personalities of the team. India lost only one game in the tournament in a match against South Africa.

The final was nothing short of a nail-biting finish. Sri Lanka posted a giant total of 274 runs on the scoreboard batting first. India lost Sachin and Sehwag early in the final, but a batting masterclass from Gautam Gambhir and Indian captain MS Dhoni sealed the victory for the Men in Blue, making them the first team ever to win the world cup on home soil.
