Veteran bowler, Harbhajan Singh has been announced as the captain of the Punjab side for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018 with Yuvraj Singh as his deputy. The Punjab team will depart from the state today and will play it first matches on January 9 against the hosts, Delhi, at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.

Mandeep Singh has made a comeback to the side. He was out from competitive cricket from more than past years of 7-8 months due to a back injury and underwent surgery. He is now fit and is all set to return to playing XI.

Young sensation, Anmolpreet Singh too is a part of the team. He scored 753 runs in just five Ranji Trophy games this season at an average of 125.50. He though has already played T20 games for the state earlier.

The success of the side will heavily depend on international players like Gurkeerat Mann, Manpreet Grewal, Siddharth Kaul, Sandeep Sharma and Barinder Sran. All of them have been playing for the side for last many years and would be hoping to win a title this time with a star-studded side.

It will also be a chance for Manan Vohra to present a case in front of IPL franchises. Unsurprisingly, unlike the last time, he was not retained by franchise ahead of the auction. Manan has to perform in the tournament to find a franchise for himself.

In fact, all other Punjab players too will have the same goal as the auction process will take place right after the conclusion of the tournament.

All the players in the Punjab side have been selected after they cleared the yo-yo test. All the players were asked to undergo the test as the state association took a leaf out of team India’s textbook and made the test compulsory. Apart from Delhi, Punjab will face Jammu and Kashmir, Services, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

Squad: Harbhajan Singh (Captain), Abhishek Gupta (Wk), Yuvraj Singh (Vice-captain) Mandeep Singh, Manan Vohra, Gurkeerat Mann, Anmolpreet Singh, Sanvir Singh, Sidharth Kaul, Manpreet Grewal, Sandeep Sharma, Baltej Singh, Vinay Choudhary, Mayank Markande, Sharad Lumba, Barinder Sran.
