Team India, who is currently in England fighting in the five-match Test series, recently mourned the death of former India skipper, Ajit Wadekar ahead of their practice session.

Meanwhile, Ajit Wadekar played 37 Tests and compiled 2113 runs at an average of 31.07. His only Test hundred came against New Zealand in Wellington in February 1968, a knock that helped India win the Test. Eventually, the Asian nation won their first-ever series (3-1) away from home.

Despite being a left-handed No.3 batsman of good repute, Wadekar’s name will forever be synonymous with India’s series victories in Windies and England in the summer of 1971. Wadekar, India’s 16th Test captain, led the country in 16 Tests, with India winning four and losing four matches. Ajit Wadekar decided to step down after India’s dismal tour to England in 1974.

He played and captained two One-Day Internationals at the end of that tour and subsequently called time on his international career. Ajit Wadekar went on to play just one more first-class game versus Saurashtra before hanging up his boots.

Virat Kohli & Co have started their preparation ahead of the third Test in Trent Bridge. However, ahead of the training session, they observed a two-minute silence ahead of the start of the practise sessions.

#TeamIndia members observe a two-minute silence to condole the sad demise of former India Captain Ajit Wadekar,” the post read.

Meanwhile, India will have to put up a much-improved effort to keep themselves alive in this series. Virat Kohli & Co are currently 2-0 down in the series. The batsmen have struggled to put any resistance against the English seamers except Kohli.

The openers will have to take the onus on themselves and lift the morale of the side. Moreover, Jasprit Bumrah has attained full fitness and is in line to play the next game.
