Team India have been penalized for keeping a slow over-rate in the fourth T20I against New Zealand at Wellington. The Men in Blue continued their winning run on the tour with yet another victory by super over but their win was soured a bit because of the slow over-rate.

The Virat Kohli-led side was found to be two overs short of the target after taking time allowances into consideration. On-field umpires Chris Brown and Shaun Haig, and third umpire Ashley Mehrotra levelled the charges, which were ratified by match referee Chris Broad.

As a result, the India players were fined 40 percent of their match-fees – 20 percent for each over in keeping with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. Captain Virat Kohli accepted the sanction so there was no need for a formal hearing.

As far as the match is concerned, for the second time in a row in the series, the result was decided by the super over. Chasing 166, New Zealand needed just 7 runs with well set Tim Seifert and Ross Taylor batting. But somehow, New Zealand failed to score the required runs.

They lost four wickets in the over and failed to score 2 runs off the final ball. On the first ball of the final over, Taylor was dismissed. Daryl Mitchell then hit a four to bring the equation down to 3 from final four balls before Seifert was run out. Mitchell was then out on the fifth ball while Mitchell Santner was out on the final ball when he tried to take a non-existent double.

In the super over, New Zealand scored 13 for 1. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul then did the required job. Rahul started the super over in fine fashion by dispatching Tim Southee for a six and a four to all but seal the game. He was out on the third ball but Virat Kohli scored the remaining runs to take India closer to a famous whitewash.
