The process to appoint a head coach and other coaches for the Indian cricket team will start soon and many heavyweights including Tom Moody, Mike Hesson, Venkatesh Prasad, Pravin Amre and others have applied for the job.

The interview to appoint a new head coach will be conducted by Kapil Dev-led CAC on August 16 while the MSK Prasad-led selection panel will take a call on other coaches. Despite BCCI receiving 2000 applications, conflict of interest issue saw few of the heavyweight coaches not applying for the coveted job.

Let us have a look at those three coaches who have not applied for the head coach job –

Team India’s first World Cup-winning coach, Kirsten has not applied for the head coach position. The primary reason behind this could be the fact that he will not be able to coach Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL due to conflict of interest issue.

Kirsten had shown interest to coach India’s women’s team and he was also the first preference of the panel that picked the coach but he could not take over the job due to his association with RCB.

All the speculations regarding Kirsten interested in the job were put to rest when he was recently appointed as the head coach of Durban Heat for the upcoming season of Mzansi Super League.

When BCCI invited the applications for the job, the name of Jayawardene did come up but the former Sri Lankan captain has not applied for any position. He is presently associated with Mumbai Indians in IPL and has also coached the team to two titles in three years at the helm.

Jayawardene seems to be satisfied with coaching Mumbai Indians IPL and Khulna Titans in Bangladesh Premier League. Recently, a report in ESPNcricinfo had suggested that he will also be appointed as head coach job of Southern Brave in The Hundred with Shane Bond – a member of Mumbai Indians’ coaching staff – taking over as his deputy.

The former Australian skipper seems to be quite happy with performing part-time role at Australian team and coaching Delhi Capitals. His name never came up during the application process and Ponting doesn’t seem to be interested in coaching the Indian cricket team for now.

He started his coaching career in 2013 after he relinquished captaincy of Mumbai Indians and became a member of the backroom staff. In December 2014, he became head coach of the team and coached them to a title victory n 2015. He was replaced by Jayawardene before IPL 2017 and took over as the head coach of Delhi Capitals before IPL 2018.
