Team India crushed West Indies in the third and final ODI on Friday to secure the whitewash and ensure that Rohit Sharma begins his full-time stint on the perfect note.

Chasing a target of 266, the Windies were never in the chase as they once again lost their top-order in double-quick time. It was Deepak Chahar who did the damage in the powerplay, taking two wickets in an over.

The misery compounded for the visitors and they lost half their side on 76. The experienced Jason Holder couldn’t do much against the impeccable bowling from Prasidh Krishna, edging to first slip on 6.

Skipper Nicholas Pooran fought hard for his 34 but he was unable to show the patience necessary, slashing hard at Kuldeep Yadav’s delivery, only managing an edge which was once again gobbled up by Rohit Sharma at first slip.

Things went downhill from there and it was only a matter of time before India managed to wrap it up. Earlier, opting to bat first, the Indian top-order also crumbled for the second time in a row.

Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan, and Virat Kohli were all dismissed inside the first ten overs, exposing the middle-order early on. However, they were able to handle the pressure as Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer stitched a 110-run partnership that took them past the 150-run mark.

Pant fell after reaching his fifty but Iyer kept battling on before being dismissed for 80. Cameos from Deepak Chahar (38) and Washington Sundar (33) ensured that the hosts went past the 250-run mark and ended up on 265.
