India won the U-19 World Cup title for the record fourth time, and the young boys from India put up a comprehensive show throughout the tournament, as they enjoyed an unbeaten run.
India defeated Australia by eight wickets in the final, and a lot of credit has been given to the Indian management and most importantly the head coach of the Indian team Rahul Dravid.
Dravid a name synonymous with humility has been praised and has been given credit for India’s success in the tournament.
Many former and current cricketers have heaped praises on the young team, as the team enjoyed an unbeaten run throughout the tournament.
The Wall’ as he is widely known has not been accepting the due credit he deserves, but the cricketing world has praised the former Indian captain for embracing the same attitude he possesses into the young boys.
Dravid has not just won hearts in India or other countries but also across the border in Pakistan. India crushed Pakistan in the semi-final of the World Cup, as they won the match by 203 runs. After the win, Dravid went to the Pakistani dressing room to boost the morale of the Pakistani players.
Pakistan’ team’s manager Nadeem Khan praised Dravid’s gesture and said,
“It was a very nice gesture only confirming Dravid’s stature in our eyes,”
On returning from New Zealand, Khan told media that the way their players played against India, it seemed someone had cast a magic spell on them.
Pakistan was bowled out for a mere 69 runs while chasing 272 runs. Khan said,
“We were confident that it would be a close match, but as the match progressed and our batting went down for 69, it made one wonder if there was a magic spell on the team. It appeared as if our batsmen had no idea what was happening out on the field or how to tackle the situation and pressure.”
Khan, who is former Test cricket and elder brother of Moin Khan admitted a lot of work needed to be done to improve youth cricket in Pakistan,
“I wouldn’t say our performance was satisfactory even though we managed to make the semifinals. Compared to previous youth teams the current generation of junior players lacked in many areas,”
