While the rest of the teams in the world are set on overhauling the 500-mark team total in ODI cricket, the United States of America (USA) created an unwanted record of registering the joint-lowest total in ODI history. The US achieved this record against Nepal on Wednesday in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 match. They were bowled out for only 35 runs, lasting 12 overs in total. Such was an embarrassment.

In those 12 overs, Xavier Marshall top-scored for them with 16 runs to his name. Rest of the batsmen went back for single-digit scores, among which four of them were dismissed for a duck.

Sandeep Lamichanne, who plays for Delhi Capitals (DC) and Melbourne Stars in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Big Bash League (BBL) respectively, took six wickets by conceding only 16 runs from six overs.

Besides, Sushan Bhari took the remaining four, giving away five runs in three overs.

In reply, the boys from Nepal chased down the score of 36 in 5.2 overs itself by smacking five fours and two sixes. But that also came at the cost of two wickets with Gyanendra Malla and Subhash Khakurel losing their wickets.

But Paras Khadka and Dipendra Singh Airee remained not out on 20 and 15 respectively to lead their side to a resounding win.

Zimbabwe held the unwanted record previously:

Earlier, Zimbabwe cricket team held the sole record for the lowest total when Sri Lanka skittled them for 35 in an ODI in 2004.

Dion Ebrahim top-scored for the African nation back then with seven while Chaminda Vaas was the chief destroyer with the ball, taking four wickets for 11 runs in nine overs.

The USA managed to last only 12 overs while Zimbabwe’s innings lasted for 18.

Below are the five lowest totals in ODI history:

Team Score Overs Opposition Ground
Zimbabwe 35 18 Sri Lanka Harare
USA 35 12 Nepal Kirtipur
Canada 36 18.4 Sri Lanka Paarl
Zimbabwe 38 15.4 Sri Lanka Colombo(SSC)
Sri Lanka 43 20.1 South Africa Paarl
